paver patios

You’ve decided it’s time to make your dream patio a reality. You’ve designed the blueprint, selected the flowers, and hired the landscapers.

For the seating area, you like the look of paver patios, but you’re not sure what to expect from paver stones.

How do you prepare the site for paver installation? What kind of colors, shapes, or patterns are available with pavers? Will they fit into your budget?

Pavers are a quality and reliable option to use when installing your patio. There are a few tips to keep in mind, though. Keep reading to learn a bit about paver installation and what goes into paver patio designs.

1. Easy Maintenance

Out of all the patio flooring options, paver stones are a quality option. While you may invest more initially, having a paver stone patio will pay off in the long run.

Pavers are durable and add a neutral tone to your cozy outdoor space.

You won’t need to repeatedly restrain or reseal your pavers. If damage does happen to occur, you can replace the damaged pavers one by one, instead of having to replace the whole patio.

2. Dig Deep First

When you begin construction for your patio, be sure to dig deep enough. You’ll need to go down about six inches. Before you break ground, contact your local utility number to have any electrical or plumbing lines marked.

If you’re working with dry soil, add water to the area the night before to make the dirt easier to dig up when you’re ready to get to work.

3. Prevent Weeds

If you don’t want to have to worry about weeds after you install your patio, you’ll want to take extra measures during the construction.

Adding a landscaping cloth below the base of sand can help prevent weeds from working their way up through the patio stones.

You can also do your best to seal the spaces between the stones. Sealing with sand and other materials can help promote a smooth patio surface.

4. Drainage Plan

Although you want to ensure your patio is level, you also don’t want rainwater draining towards the foundation of your home.

Prevent water damage by including a slight slope away from your house. Select an area that can sustain extra water collection and will drain appropriately.

The drop should be about a quarter of an inch for every two feet of distance along your patio area.

5. Cut to Fit

If you spent many months pondering paver patio ideas, you probably have a specific pattern in mind for your patio.

Constructing a patio with some kind of pattern is a subtle and attractive detail to include for your yard space. For any kind of pattern, however, the paver stones you purchase will likely not fit perfectly.

You’ll need to buy extra paver stones that can be cut to various sizes to fill the gaps and odd corners and curves around your patio. It will help your patio pattern to truly look complete.

Why Paver Patios Are Best

Paver patios are a great way to frame out your dream outdoor space. You’ll finally be able to relax on a natural, beautiful patio and enjoy the sun any time of year.
